There is provided for a hydrostatic high-pressure pump an automatic flushing device having a flushing valve which is arranged between the discharge duct and the interior of the pumps. The valve is open when the pressure in the discharge duct of the pump is low and it then allows the residual-oil amount, which is delivered by the pump to ensure adequate flushing, to pass and to flow back into the reservoir via the leakage oil outlet. As soon as the pressure in the discharge duct is high enough, the valve closes and the flushing process is terminated. Flushing of the pump then takes place, as previously known, by the leakage-oil quantity within the pump and the known measures within the hydraulic circuit. The flushing valve can be designed as an independent component which, in the form of a cartridge, can be screwed in in the interior of the pump.
