PURPOSE:Cells of a microorganism belonging to Propionibacterium are broken and the resulting cell extract is treated with a coagulant to collect a substance with high antitumorigenic activity and low toxicity. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism belonging to Propionibacterium, e.g., Propionibacterium avidum ATCC25577, is cultured by a usual anaerobic method. The resulting cells of the bacterium are broken and filtered or centrifuged to give the cell-free extract. A coagulant, e.g., a polyvalent metal salt, water-soluble basic antibiotic substance or its salt, is added to the extract to collect the substance with antitumorigenic activity as a precipitate. |
