摘要 PURPOSE:To accurately estimate the velocities of an electromagnetic wave and a charged particle by providing the inside of a hexahedron formed by a transparent optical shell with liquid organic material whose refractive index is changed by an electric field and comprising electrodes for applying electric field to the liquid organic material and provided on the opposite top and bottom surfaces of the hexahedron, a scintillator and a photomultiplier. CONSTITUTION:A hexahedral optical medium 1 is a normal hexane that is a liquid organic material having a refractive index changed by the strength of an electric field and sealed in an about 0.5mm thick glass. The top and bottom surfaces of a hexahedron is provided with electrodes for applying an electrostatic field to the surfaces. The electric field is applied in a direction perpendicular to the paper. Two scintillators 2 are disposed on a perpendicular to the front and rear surfaces of the hexahedron and make electromagnetic waves or charged particles incident in substantially parallel to side surfaces. Only when the two scintillators 2 output signals at the same time, a photomultiplier is adapted to be operated.
