PURPOSE:To remove water hammering when a stop valve of a tap-controlled type water heater and reduce after heating by providing a rotational position detecting switch at the rotational portion of a motor, and slowly carrying out the opening and closing of the stop valve. CONSTITUTION:In this gas tap-controlled type water heater, after lapse of 1-2sec from the shut-off of gas, a stop valve shaft driving motor 26 rotates reversely. By the rotation of a gear 27 directly connected to the motor 26, a gear 30 rotates and a stop valve 35 is closed by the hydraulic pressure and a force of a spring 37, thus stopping the flow of water. When the motor 26 reaches a predetermined rotational angle, the cam portion 27a of the gear 27 pushes the lever of a rotational position detecting closing limiter 28 to stop the rotation of a motor. Simultaneously, a cam portion 27b of the gear 27 gets away from an opening limiter 29. After stopping the gas in this manner, water is stopped after lapse of 1-2sec, and water whose temperature becomes high by surplus heat is driven out to remove after-heating, and the opening and closing of the stop valve are made slow by means a speed reduction gear thereby to prevent water hammering from occurring.
