PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium capable of writing and reading and improved in reproduction deterioration without laminating any reflective layer, by a method wherein a specified polymethine coloring matter is used in a recording layer, and a quencher is incorporated in the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer comprising a polymethine coloring matter of the formula, wherein each of R1 and R2, which may be bonded to each other to form a condensed ring, is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group or the like, L is -(CH=CH)n- or -CH=(CH-CH)n=, n is 1, 2 or 3, A is an aryl group, an alkylamino group or the like when L is -(CH=CH)n- and it is a bivalent residue of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring when L is -CH=(CH-CH)n=, and, if required, a resin such as a polyolefin and a vinyl chloride copolymer as well as a quencher consisting of a transition metal chelated compound such as an acetylacetonato-chelate, is provided on a base consisting of a resin, a glass or the like. |
