PURPOSE:To obtain a styrene polymer having broad molecular weight distribution and excellent transparency, crushability and impregnability in paper and suitable as a molding material, foam-molding material, adhesive, toner, etc., by adding a small amount of a solvent-soluble polyester in the polymerization of styrene. CONSTITUTION:A styrene polymer having a Q value (MW/MN wherein MW is weight-average molecular weight and MN is number-average molecular weight) of 3-15 measured by gel-permeation chromatography can be produced by polymerizing styrene in the presence of 0.1-1.5wt% solvent-soluble polyester (preferably an unsaturated polyester having a softening point of 60-130 deg.C and a number-average molecular weight of 1,000-20,000). EFFECT:Since the polymer has broad molecular weight distribution, it has the characteristics of high-molecular weight polymer as well as those of low- molecular weight polymer.
