[Also in Divisions C3 and G2] Substrates such as polyester film, paper and cloth are coated with a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of a sequentially polymerised mixture of a) a terpolymer of vinylidene chloride / C 1 to C 4 -alkyl acrylate / itaconic acid and b) a polymer of a C 1 to C 10 -alkyl acrylate or methacrylate cross-linked in the presence of terpolymer a) with a diethenyl benzene or a dipropenyl aliphatic or aromatic ester. Examples are given in which polyethylene terephthalate film is coated on both sides in a bead roll coater with the aqueous dispersion, biaxially stretched and heat-set under tension prior to being used as a base for photographic film. Further coatings of gelatin or synthetic resins may also be applied to the coated substrate. |
