PURPOSE:To improve running durability by using hexagonal platy ferrite magnetic powder for a magnetic recording layer and specifying the Young's modulus of the magnetic layer to >=9X10<10>dyn/cm<2>. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is formed by using the hexagonal platy ferrite magnetic powder for the magnetic recording layer and specifying the Young's modulus E' of the magnetic layer to >=9X10<10>dyn/cm<2>. The hexagonal platy ferrite magnetic powder to the used is barium ferrite magnetic powder, strontium ferrite magnetic powder, etc. Clogging and chipping of a coated film hardly arise with the magnetic recording medium, for example, floppy disk, and video if the Young's modulus is the above-mentioned value or above. Since the medium is hard, there is a high cleaning effect and the running durability is improved.
