PURPOSE:To maintain the roundness of a workpiece and eliminate the need for using a rotating mechanism for a supporting member for position adjusting by using a conical supporting member which can be fitted into the end part of a workpiece, in a sensitive body drum stock machining lathe. CONSTITUTION:A drum stock 10 is fitted over one fixed center shaft 22 of a supporting member 3 which has conical bodies 31 on the ends of a pair of center shafts 21, 22 and, as the drum stock 10 is supported by bringing the other center shaft 21 closer, the outer peripheral surfaces of cylindrical parts 32 are brought into close contact with the inner peripheral surface of the drum stock 10. After machining is completed, when the center shaft 21 is moved in the direction of the arrow, the drum stock 10 slides downward along the inclination of the outer peripherals surface of the body part 31. The movement of the shaft 21 is once stopped and the engaging members 41 of a conveying device 4 are inserted in between the drum stock 10 and the supporting member 3 into the drum stock 10, and the center shaft 21 is moved again, to support the drum stock 10 with the engaging members 41, 41. That is, the drum stock 10 can be supported regardless of its stopping position. Also, the workpiece is not deformed due to a turning operation, securing roundness.
