The invention relates to a device making it possible to automatically turn on the lights of a motor vehicle as soon as the ambient light falls below a defined threshold. It consists of an optical fibre PLASTIFO F (registered trademark) 1 which picks up light and transmits to a photosensitive element R3 whose reaction threshold is defined by a resistor R2 (which may be a variable resistor) mounted in series with the resistor R1 which is linked to the controls (+). When the light intensity decreases, the resistance of the photosensitive element increases, and when it reaches the threshold defined by the resistor R2, will bias the bases of the two transistors T1 and T2 via a ZENER diode (D1). The transistor T2 linked to the coil of a relay 11 closes the contacts 3 and 4 thus allowing current to supply the lamps 7, 8, 9, 10. <IMAGE>
