PURPOSE:To enable formation of various display parts and to improve visuability of the display parts by providing cholesteric liquid crystal phase on a substrate and a heating element for heating the cholesteric liquid crystal phase. CONSTITUTION:An exothermic resistor 20 is heated for a mounted by impressing a pulse voltage to the exothermic resistor 20 through a conductor 30 using a pulse generator, etc. Heat is transmitted instantaneously to a cholesteric liquid crystal phase 40 formed above the exothermic resistor 20 by this heating, and the temp. of the cholesteric liquid phase is elevated. Thus, the color of the cholesteric liquid crystal phase 40 is varied depending on the heating temp. of the exothermic resistor 20, i.e. pulse voltage impressed to the exothermic resistor 20. Thus, by controlling the pulse voltage, various kinds of tone of color, such as blue, green, and red can be displayed with one liquid crystal phase, so the visuability can be improved.
