PURPOSE:To prevent a dark part from occurring as well as to improve the extent of luminance, by rendering low resistive treatment to a high resistance phosphor consisting of a particle of less than the specified diameter, forming it into a phosphor composite, while applying it on an anode plate on a substrate, and forming a phosphor layer. CONSTITUTION:Low resistive treatment, in mixing, for example, In2O3 as a conductive material, is rendered to a high resistance phosphor such as a ZnS system phosphor or the like consisting of a particle of less than 30mum, manufacturing a phosphor composite. Then, it is applied onto a surface of the anode 4 set up on a substrate 1, forming a phosphor layer 5, and a fluorescent character display tube is thus constituted. And, a particle diameter is regulated whereby the presence of a large particle phosphor 52 in a phosphor layer surface 51 of the phosphor layer 5 is eliminated, and a dark part attributable to the large particle phosphor is prevented from occurring. Accordingly, luminance in the phosphor layer 5 is uniformized, while it is made into high luminance, thus display quality of the display tube is improvable.
