PURPOSE:To obtain an electronic typewriter capable of being enhanced in operability through a speedy and appropriate judgement of the cause of an error, by discriminating the kind of the error and displaying it on a display part. CONSTITUTION:This electronic typewriter displays a first error message stored in an error message memory R5 on a display part 9 when the carriage position CA at the time of a right margin position (RM) setting operation is in the vicinity of a left margin position LM and when the carriage position CA at the time of a left margin position (LM) setting operation is in the vicinity of the right margin position RM. When a key operation requires a carriage 5 to be moved rightward beyond the right margin position RM, a second error message is displayed, and when a key operation requires the carriage 5 to be moved leftward beyond the left margin position LM, a third error message is displayed. Accordingly, the cause of an error can be judged speedily and appropriately, and operability can be enhanced. |
