PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity for exchanging a helical guide and a slider, by applying the machining method such that a pinion cutter decreases a number of teeth smaller than the formula value while increases a circular pitch in one part larger than mn.pi, and in this part a gear blank material is placed distant from the cutter when gear cutting is performed. CONSTITUTION:A pinion cutter 6, which decreases its number of teeth smaller than a value obtained from L.sinphi/mn.pi while increases a circular pitch in one part larger than mn.pi, forms a condition that a tooth is broken. And this cutter, being mounted to a cutter spindle 2 of a gear shaping machine, cuts a gear by generating a cutting motion through a part in which a cutting tooth 5 spaces mn.pi. Here a blank of the gear, when the part with the large circular pitch approaches, is retreated from the pinion cutter 6, and it it only required to restart the generating motion by reversing rotation of the cutter spindle 2 and a work table to return the cutter to the cutting start point. Accordingly, gear cutting of a helical gear can be performed with no necessity for exchanging a helical guide and a slider.
