The sub-mattress is intended to have an electrically conductive insert for screening electromagnetic radiation, by means of which insert a specific microwave spectrum of electromagnetic rays can effectively be screened. The electrically conductive insert consists of a multiplicity of waveguides which are arranged side-by-side and whose axial attenuation is dimensioned such that the electromagnetic radiation entering from the one side is damped in the waveguide such that it no longer emerges on the other side. In consequence, the electrically conductive insert is microwave-proof while nevertheless ensuring good transportation of air and moisture.
