PURPOSE:To obtain a nonmigrating polyurethane production catalyst which is odorless, water-soluble, easily handleable and excellent in catalytic activity, comprising a specified compound derived from an N,N-dimethylaminoalkanol and (meth)acrylonitrile. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (wherein n is 2-12 and R is H or methyl), e.g., N,N-dimethylaminohexyl-3-aminopropyl ether, is used as a catalyst used in the production of polyurethane by reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate. The compound of formula I can be easily produced by synthesizing a compound of formula II by reacting an N,N-dimethylaminoalkanol in which the alkanol moiety is of 2-12C with (meth)acrylonitrile and converting the CN group of this compound into a CH2NH2 group by catalytic hydrogenation.
