PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound economically, in high yield, without causing corrosion of materials, by reacting an aromatic mononitro compound with an aromatic primary amine and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst, reacting the reaction product with a hydroxyl-containing organic compound and separating the objective compound from the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic mononitro compound (e.g. nitrobenzene) is made to react with an aromatic primary amine (e.g. aniline) and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composed mainly of a compound containing platinum-group metal [e.g. Ru3(CO)12] at 80-130 deg.C and 1-500kg/cm<2> to obtain an N,N'-disubstituted urea. The product is made to react with a hydroxyl- containing organic compound (e.g. methyl alcohol) to obtain an aromatic primary amine and an aromatic urethane, which is separated from the reaction system. The separated aromatic primary amine is recycled and reused. |
