PRODUCTION OF 7,7'-DIHYDROXY-4,4,4',4'-THTRAMETHYL-2,2'-SPIROCHROMAN

摘要

PURPOSE:Resorcin is allowed to react with a specific combination of reagents in the presence of aqueous sulfuric acid and a specific solvent whereby the titled compound of high purity which is used as a heat stabilizer is produced in high yield without vicosity increase in the reaction mixture in a short time. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a halogenated aliphatic compound such as chloroform as a solvent and sulfuric acid, acetone, mesityl oxide and/or diacetone alcohol are allowed to react with resorcinol, preferably at 40-80 deg.C to give the objective compound of the formula. The sulfuric acid is preferably used so that the amount becomes 0.5-2mol per mole of the resorcin and the concentration is 50-90wt% in its aqueous solution. The amount of mesityl oxide recommended for use is 0.5-2mol per mole of acetone.
