In a drying device for drying motor vehicles in vehicle washing systems, in particular gantry washing systems, a horizontal blower case (2) which extends in the plane of the frame and at least one blower (3) which is connected to the case are provided on a gantry-like frame (1). A slotted nozzle (5) with downwardly directed outlet opening (5a) is arranged directly on the underside of the blower case (2) and the blower case (2) is mounted, together with the slotted nozzle and the blower (3), as a unit on the frame (1) in a vertically movable fashion. The vertical movement of the blower case is controlled by a control device as a function of the contour of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
