PURPOSE:To avoid erroneous alarm by a method wherein temperature measuring devices are provided at the outlets of coolant passages provided in a stator coil and the mutual differences between temperature signals obtained by the devices are picked up for every same phase zone of the generator and an alarm is generated when any one of the obtained temperature differences reaches a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:Coolant temperature is measured at the outlet of each coolant passage in a stator coil 3. The measured temperature signals are inputted to a temperature monitor circuit 24 and temperature difference signals between two or more signals are obtained for every same phase zone. It is detected whether any one of the obtained temperature difference signals of the same phase zone reaches an alarm setting temperature region predetermined in accordance with the armature current of a corresponding phase or a specific phase and, when it reaches the setting temperature region, an alarm device is operated by the detection signal and the abnormality of the stator coil 3 is notified.
