PURPOSE:To improve the operability by controlling a disc device to protect its head and cutting off the power supply after the cutoff of power supply is notified to a host corresponding to the notice of a power cutoff request signal from a power cutoff request switch to save data. CONSTITUTION:In setting a power supply cutoff request switch 1 in the operating state, a PDR (power supply cutoff request) signal is notified to a control section 3 constituting a disc controller 2. The control section 3 receiving the notice of the PDR signal informs the PDR signal to a host CPU 8 to allow the host CPU 8 to protect software. The host CPU 8 completing the protection of the software replies a PDRA (power supply cutoff permission signal) to the control section 3. A head protection control section 4 receiving the said PDRA signal moves a head of a disc device 6 to the protection area. A power supply cutoff control section 5 cuts off the power supply 7 on this occasion. Thus, the host CPU 8 protects the software and the head of the disc device 6 is controlled to be moved automatically to the protection region.
