In a multistorey garage, Fig. 3, cars are placed in storage positions comprising groups of tines 15, 16 by a lift with complementary groups of tines which pass between the storage tines as a car is powered on to or lifted therefrom. The lift is raised by cables 33 and a pair of motors 31 and the lifting platform has the spaces between the two groups of tines and at the ends of the tines filled by plates 52, 55. Fixed or pivoted arms 28, Fig. 4, are also provided to fill the gaps between the tines 30 which move up and down with the lift platform. Operation is automatic and is initiated by inserting a coin in a slot corresponding to a vacant parking space and turning a key. The lift moves up to a height slightly higher than the vacant space is moved to either the left or right by electric motors and is lowered through the tines of the vacant space to deposit the vehicle. After moving back into the central well the lift may return to ground level or be programmed to remove a vehicle from a storage space. When a vehicle runs over a raised wheel stop 57, Fig. 4, on the lift platform a further stop 57b is automatically raised by a rod 60. |
