<p>Polyamides are prepd. by polycondensing omega-lactams and omega-aminocarboxylic acids in the presence of a viscosity stabiliser consisting of up to 0.5 mol. % of a monocarboxylic acid or the equivalent quantity of a dicarboxylic acid contg. as structural unit the group of formula: (where R is opt. branched C2-3 alkylene, R' is opt. branched hydrocarbyl; n is >=40; and the valencies which do not carry an acid group are onded to H or inert hydrocarbyl groups). The viscosity stabiliser also provides the polymide with durable antistatic properties, without any major change in the structure of the polyamide. Esp. useful for the prodn. of textiles fibres.</p> |
