PURPOSE:To attain noiseless still picture reproduction quickly by inhibiting position control of a movable head for a prescribed period at the start of still picture reproduction of a tape and processing a reference signal frequency while changing it sequentially at each field. CONSTITUTION:In reproducing a video tape on which pilot signals having frequencies f1-f4 are recorded sequentially and repetitively by means of two movable heads, signals as the result of mixing 3 of the reproduced pilot signal and a reference RF signal from a signal generating circuit 5, filtered 7 and detected 9 signals are compared 10 and outputted from a terminal 14 as an error signal for controlling the position of the movable heads. The position control of the movable heads is inhibited for a prescribed period at the still picture reproduction and an RF signal frequency of the circuit 5 is changed one by one frame sequentially by a control means comprising a comparison detection circuit 29, an adder circuit 20, a switch section 24, FFs 27, 28 and a switch 30. When a point P where the falling level of the error signal is coincident with the average level Vr for a prescribed period, a coincidence detection signal controls the RF signal so as to matched to the pilot frequency of the reproduced track. |
