PURPOSE:To prevent use efficiency from decreasing even when the traffic intensity of wide-band calls increases by performing exchange processing for narrow- band calls and wide-band calls through corresponding channels and transferring exchange processing for some of the wide-band calls to narrow-band call channels by a control means when the traffic intensity of the wide-band calls exceeds a specific value. CONSTITUTION:Each input multiple highway 10 can be connected to an output multiple highway 12 through a narrow-band call channel 11 and also to a highway 12 through a wide-band call channel 13. Narrow-band call input and output time switches 18 and 20 have a narrow-band channel memory NSPM and a control memory NSCM and a channel division control circuit CDCC which controls those memories is added; and a narrow-band call space switch 19 also has a narrow-band highway switch NHSW and its control memory NHCM and a channel division control circuit CDCC which controls those memories is added. The circuit CDCC put narrow-band call channels in charge of the conversion processing of some of wide-band calls when the load on the wide- band call channels exceeds a specific value.
