PURPOSE:To shorten widely a time from an instruction of the recording to the start of the recording by providing a control means to record a signal without overwriting for each track in the sequence from an outermost circumferential side or an innermost circumferential side of a disk on the disk in accordance with a signal from a recording instructing means. CONSTITUTION:When a recording standby switch 12 is on, the contents of the disk are reproduced, and it is discriminated by the reproducing signal level whether the track is the already recorded track or the unrecorded track. In case of the already recorded track, a stepping motor 10 for shifting the head is driven, a recording and reproducing head 9 is shifted to the next track, and in case of the unrecorded track, the head position is maintained as it is, the number of the already recorded track is prepared by a character generator 14, and while a video signal of the television is monitored, the signal is recorded for the track without overwriting in the sequence from the first track. When the recording is completed, the number of the already recorded track is displayed and the recording standby condition is obtained. Thus, before the start of the recording, the head is made into the recording standby condition, the recording is immediately executed by the recording instruction, and therefore, the time from the pushing of the recording switch up to the start of the recording can be widely shortened.
