PURPOSE:To ensure steering operation with a simple structure, by providing with such an arrangement that a support section for supporting a steering shaft and a securing section for tiltably supporting the support section are engaged and fixed with each other by means of a gear means while an engageable memory mechanism is provided. CONSTITUTION:In a tiltable steering device, an upper column 3 rotatably supporting an upper steering shaft 2 is supported to a bracket 8, tiltably around a pair of tilt pins 17, 18, and the above-mentioned upper column 3 is held in its tilted attitude by engaging a gear section 23 formed in the lower surface of a cylindrical section 11 with a movable gear member 25 which is journalled to the bracket 8 by means of a shaft 24. A memory means for setting the locking position of both gear section 23 and the movable gear member 25 to a predetermined position is composed of a memory member 46 for allowing both 23, 35 to be engaged only at the predetermined position and a select lever 42 for controlling the memory member 46. The select lever 42 rotates a pop-up lever 44 when it rotates counterclockwise, and therefore, the movable gear member 25 is rotated downward. |
