PURPOSE:To protect a body behind a seat and a passenger on a seat, by a method wherein the allowable positions of the inclination angle of a seat back and the track position of a seat cushion are computed based on mutual detecting signals to control a seat position. CONSTITUTION:The allowable ranges of the track position of a seat cushion 3 and the inclination angle of a seat back 1 are computed by a microcomputer based on mutual detecting signals. Based on the computing result, control is effected so that a seat position is set in the allowable range. In which case, switches 5-12 of a switch unit mounted to a steering handle 13, and position switches 14-17 on a control panel, to which display elements 18-21 are attached, are controlled. This enables a seat position to be automatically or manually regulated and controlled to an allowable range in linkage with a memory switch 22, and enables protection of a body behind a seat and a passenger on a rear seat.
