<p>According to the disclosed method, the ammonia is removed from a gas effluent of the washing treatment by means of a liquid which is essentially comprised of water, the washing liquid is then regenerated by backflow distillation of the gas to be treated, whereafter at least the major part of the regenerated washing liquid is recycled by heat exchange with the washing liquid to be regenerated.
