<p>Title cpds. of formula (where Ar = phenyl, opt. substd. by halogen; Ar' = beta-naphthyl or phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, alkyl (1-5C) alkoxy (1-5C) or CF3). are prepd. by reaction of alpha-chloromethyl naphthalene (II) with the appropriate benzamidine in liquid ammonia in the presence of sodamide. In an example 19.6g N-phenyl benzamidine was treated with sodamide in liquid ammonia and 17.7g (II) added. There was obtained a 51% yield of (I) m.pt. 125 degrees C.</p> |
