DETECTION OF DEFECTIVE COATING OF PHOTOGRAPHIC LAYER

PURPOSE:To prevent fogging due to inspection light and to increase detecting power by incorporating a nonsensitizing dye or pigment having absorption wavelength corresponding to the wavelength of the inspection light into an arbitrary photosensitive or nonphotosensitive layer and by using light having wavelength at which the photosensitive layer is practically nonsensitive as the inspection light. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of nonsensitizing dye or pigment having absorption wavelength corresponding to the wavelength of inspection light is incorporated into at least one arbitrary photosensitive or nonphotosensitive layer, and light having wavelength at which the photosensitive layer is practically nonsensitive is used as the inspection light. A compound represented by the formula is a typical concrete example of the nonsensitizing dye or pigment. The amount of the dye or pigment in the photographic layer is regulated so that the inspection light is absorbed at >=5%, preferably >=10% absorption factor. The optimum amount is 1-400mg/m<2>, especially 3-100mg/m<2>. Thus, fogging due to the inspection light is prevented and defective coating is easily detected.
