Handling installation for covering a volume having a rectangular base surface. The installation comprises two longitudinal horizontal rail tracks 3, installed on either side above the volume to be covered, and a movable assembly with three carriages 6, 10, 15 which move along crossed horizontal paths, as well as with an upright 17 mounted so that it may rotate about a vertical axis under the carriage 15 and receiving a vertically-mobile load-carrying element 21. Application in particular to vehicles such as delivery lorries, for the loading, unloading and handling operations carried out inside the vehicle's loading volume. <IMAGE>
