PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device superior in time division driving characteristic by improving the arrangement between the twist angle of liquid crystal molecules and axes of polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:A twist angle 11 of liquid crystal molecules is set to the range from 110 deg. to 140 deg., and polarizing plates are so set that the angle made between an axis 9 of light absorption or polarization of the upper polarizing plate and an axis 10 of light absorption or polarization of the lower polarizing plate is on the inside of the twist angle 11 of liquid crystal molecules, and this angle made between axes 9 and 10 is set to the range from 50 deg. to 60 deg., and a product DELTAn.d between refractive index anisotropy DELTAn of the liquid crystal and the thickness (d) of the liquid crystal layer is set to the range from 0.5mum to 0.9mum. A yellow or green color filter is applied to this liquid crystal display device. Thus, the contrast is improved considerably, and a comfortable hue is obtained in the display of the display device. |
