PURPOSE:To realize a wide write/narrow read head having a good read characteristic by providing a groove of a prescribed direction on both sides and the center part of a magnetic pole, and controlling a magnetizing direction of a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A groove 10 vertical to a recording medium, and a groove 11 parallel to the medium are provided on both sides of a magnetic pole 2 and its center part, respectively. Accordingly, both the sides of the magnetic pole 2 are apt to be magnetized in the direction to the recording medium, and the center part has a characteristic by which it is apt to be magnetized vertically in the direction to the medium. Therefore, at the time of write, a winding current is large, and a magnetic field supplied to the magnetic pole 2 is strong, and accordingly, a magnetic flux passes through the whole width and write is executed extending over a wide width. At the time of read from the medium of a weak magnetic field, the magnetic flux does not pass through both sides and a good read is executed in the center part where a magnetic resistance is small. Therefore, a wide write/narrow read head having a good read characteristic can be realized. |
