Process and apparatus making it possible to remove the gases from wood carbonisation. The invention relates to the numerous existing craftsmen's ovens confronted with environmental constraints and in which an improvement in the carbonisation time is desired. The process is made up of a circuit at reduced pressure created by an extractor 4 which takes the gases from the ovens 1, passes them through an incinerator 2 and then through a washing tower 3 in order to discharge them, purified, to the atmosphere 5. The washing tower is continuously sprayed with water circulating in a closed circuit and passing via treatment tanks 6-7-8. These devices can be adapted to any plant for the production of wood charcoal. <IMAGE>
