The invention relates to an automatic assembly and/or test device with a tool arm on a work spindle rotatably mounted in a spindle housing arranged on the tool arm and equipped with a holder for an assembly or test tool. In this arrangement, the spindle axis, without considerable exertion, can be laterally displaced in two coordinate directions as well as tilted about each of the two coordinate axes. The spindle housing is suspended at its centre of gravity from the second axis of the second gimbal ring, and corresponding counterweights are attached to the intermediate levers connecting the gimbal rings. Thus no motive forces additionally acting on the spindle housing occur even in any angular position of the device relative to the direction of the gravitational force as well as during rapid movements so that the device can be used on all known types of manipulating equipment.
