The machine, useable as a motor, comprises a stator having a structure carrying ferromagnetic contacts uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction and a rotor having at least one disc also carrying ferromagnetic contacts uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction and cooperating with the contacts of the stator, as well as inductor means carried by the stator in order to create an induction field along a path exhibiting a reluctance which depends on the relative position of the stator and rotor contacts. Several parallel rows of rotor contacts 10 and several rows, parallel to the preceding ones, of stator contacts 12 are arranged with respect to the field B in such a way that no force tending to displace them acts on them in the direction of the axis of rotation and that the forces generating instability act on the contacts of the rotor only in the radial direction. <IMAGE>
