SURFACE TREATMENT OF MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To permit bonding of a polymer to the surface of a magnetic recording medium at a high yield by bringing a surface treating agent of a polymer having an azide group into contact with said surface and decomposing the azide group so that the surface and the polymer are bonded by the formed nitrene. CONSTITUTION:The surface treating agent is chemically bonded to the surface of the magnetic recording medium via the nitrene formed when the azide group is decomposed by the contact of the surface treating agent of the polymer having the azide group. This chemical bond is generated through the nitrene which is the intermediate product of reaction. The nitrene intermediate product exhibits an extraordinarily higher reactivity with many org. polymers as compared to carbene and forms a carbon-nitrogen covalent bond by reacting therewith. The nitrene intermediate product makes the chemical bond with oxide metals as well. The amt. of the surface active agent to be stuck is thereby increased by 1.5-3 times.
