1449136 Supporting railway track G MOLYNEUX 13 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972] 43879/72 Heading E1G A crane track rail 20 is mounted on a longitudinal composite beam consisting of steelwork 24 embedded in concrete 30, the steelwork extending at least over limited lengths from top to bottom of the beam and having a top flange 23 on which the rail is mounted without intervening concrete or grout. As shown the rail is mounted on a sole plate 21 provided with lifting lugs 32 and the beam'rests on piles 27 or other foundations-e.g. through packing piece 34 and high strength grout (not shown), damage to the latter being prevented by the stiffness of the beam. The composite beam is located in a channel in a concrete surround 29. In a modification dispensing with the piles the nail and steelwork are located over a ground cavity and concrete is cast around the steelwork to form the composite beam. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) a rail (35) is anchored without a sole plate to the top flange of a steel girder (37) which is temporarily supported and levelled well above a pile or other foundation on short lengths of steel girder (46) resting on packing pieces and grout, the girders (37, 46) being then embedded in concrete (40) incorporating bottom-reinforcement rods (41) to form a deep stiff composite beam. |
