PURPOSE:To obtain the titled optical fiber having excellent dimensional accuracy, etc., at a low cost, by producing a wet gel containing the parts corresponding to the core part, clad part, jacket part and support part by sol-gel process and drying, sintering and drawing the wet gel. CONSTITUTION:The first mold 7 having the cross-section corresponding to the jacket part 3 is placed in the vessel 5 and a support-forming sol 10 is poured into the gap surrounding the mold 7 and gelatinized. The mold 7 is taken out of the vessel, the second mold having the cross-section corresponding to the clad part 2 is inserted into the cavity left after the removal of the first mold and a jacket-forming sol is poured into the gap surrounding the second mold and gelatinized. The second mold is taken out of the vessel, the third mold having the cross-section corresponding to the core part 1 is inserted into the cavity left after the removal of the second mold and a clad-forming sol is poured into the gap surrounding the third mold and gelatinized. The third mold is taken out of the vessel and a core-forming sol is poured into the center cavity left after the removal of the third mold and gelatinized. The obtained wet gel is dried, sintered and drawn to obtain the objective polarization maintaining optical fiber. |
