The invention relates to a control unit which, for electron control, is in particular arranged between a gas-discharge space (9) and a post-deflection acceleration space (10) in a display device and which consists of at least two thin panes of glass (6, 7) which are combined to form a stack and which, as electron control panes (2, 3) have a grid of openings through which electrons can pass (perforated grid), which grid corresponds to the grid of the electron control elements (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b) which are applied to the panes of glass (6, 7) on at least one side in the form of a matrix, the electron control panes (2, 3) being connected to one another in a compact manner by means of glass-solder layers (4). The electron control panes (2, 3) of the control unit are intended to be at a defined distance apart which can be reproduced. For this purpose, it is provided that the glass-solder layers (4) have a low percentage of spacer elements (1) at least in the active region (perforated grid) of the electron control panes (2, 3), the dimensions of which spacer elements (1) govern the predetermined distance between the electron control panes (2, 3). The control unit according to the invention is used for flat (plasma) screens. <IMAGE>
