Process for operating a nuclear reactor

A nuclear reactor with a reactor core (1) consisting of fuel rods arranged parallel to one another in a regular rod grid is operated in such a way that, during the lifetime of the core (1), the number of parallel fuel rods (2) is reduced by the removal of fuel rods (2) from positions of the rod grid. The removed rods (2) are arranged in positions of the rod grid in a second plane offset in the axial direction, so that greater moderation is achieved. The invention is provided especially for boiling-water reactors. <IMAGE>
