PURPOSE:To prevent the wear of side dams provided in contact with both side faces of an internally cooled roll pair and the leakage of steel from said dams by bringing the bottom edges of the side dam,s upper than the narrowest position of the roll pair and supplying a slurry-like material to both side gaps. CONSTITUTION:A pair of the internally cooled rolls 1a, 1b which rotate in the directions opposite from each other are disposed in parallel and a pouring basin is formed by the side dams 2a, 2b in contact with both side faces S. The molten metal therein is continuously cast through a gap between a pair of the above-mentioned rolls 1a, 1b to a thin ingot 4. The bottom edges 6 of the side dams 2a, 2b of the above-mentioned twin roll type continuous casting machine are brought upper than the narrowest position of the rolls 1a, 1b. The slurry-like material 8 is supplied from a nozzle 5 to both side gaps lower than the bottom edges 6.A mixture composed of powder of the oxide, fluoride, nitride, carbide of metal or carbon, etc. and oil is adequate as the above- mentioned material 8. |
