The device can be used in conjunction with downstream units for various operations in the thermoplastic and elastomer processing industry. The aim of the invention is to improve the mode of operation of a device with disc-groove rotors and the versatile applicability of said device. The object of the invention is to design the device such that, with a high pressure build up, a forcibly conveyed, defined amount of material can be discharged per rotor revolution and, by virtue of a controllable connection of the annular channels, the process can be influenced directly. This object is achieved according to the invention in that at least one of the annular channels formed by the disc-groove pair is partly or completely closed against the material conveying direction by a disc with a recess and a closure element arranged in the groove of the other rotor and the material is thereby dammed up, with high pressure build up, and conveyed forcibly. The annular channels can be optionally connected to one another in the conveying direction by means of controllable overflow channels to influence the process. <IMAGE>
