The environment is loaded considerably by conventional burners, in particular for heating systems in single-family and multiple-family dwellings, since, at the low waste gas temperatures of these burners, the fuels are incompletely combusted and thus harmful-substance waste gases are emitted into the air. In order to reduce the harmful-substance emission in such burners, it is proposed that waste gases of the burner are returned to the combustion region, there being provided to this end a device for returning the waste gases of a burner, such as in particular a burner for heating systems, which has a combustion chamber, a waste gas outlet and preferably a draught regulator, in which device a branch line (9, 9') is provided, which can be connected to the waste gas outlet (7), can be guided back with an outlet (21, 23) to the combustion chamber (2) and in which at least one fan (11, 14) is arranged. <IMAGE>
