发明名称 MULTICOLOR DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To improve a contrast ratio and brightness and to lower a driving voltage by guiding colored light to respective shutters without using any color filter. CONSTITUTION:Optical shutters 11 are arrayed alternately in correspondence to the primary colors R, G, and B, end parts of optical fibers 13 are arrayed in correspondence to the optical shutters 11, and the other-side end parts are bundled for respective R, G, and B. Illumination light beams from three light sources which emit light beams of R, G, and B are transmitted through optical fibers 13 and reach parts right before a liquid crystal layer 5. Assuming that the liquid crystal layer 5 is grounded, the liquid crystal of the liquid crystal layer 5 cuts off transmitted light when a display signal applied to a picture element electrode is at a high voltage. When at a low voltage, the transmitted light is transmitted through the liquid crystal layer and radiated from the front surface of an optical shutter. When the counter electrode 3 is at a ground voltage, a low-voltage display signal is applied to a picture element electrode 2 corresponding to a picture element of blue and high-voltage display signals are applied to picture elements 2a' and 2a'' corresponding to red and green, thereby displaying a blue dot. Consequently, transmitted light beams of red and green are cut off and transmitted light of blue is seen. Thus, a uniform multicolor image plane with high precision and high contrast is displayed.
