PURPOSE:The titled retaining agent, containing a polylysine, capable of preventing wilting and flower adscission of cut flowers and remarkably extending a period in which the flowers are blooming and having very low toxicity and high safety. CONSTITUTION:A retaining agent containing a polylysine or salt thereof, preferably obtained by condensing amino groups at the epsilon-position of L-lysine with carboxyl groups and epsilon-polylysine produced by a fermentation method, etc., or hydrochloride thereof, etc. The content of the above-mentioned polylysine is 20-400ppm concentration in the activity retaining agent for the cut flowers. The above-mentioned concentration may be high in the summer season at high atmospheric temperature and low in the winter season of low atmospheric temperature. Examples of the cut flowers to be applied include carnation, rose, Transvaal daisy, lily, Dendrobium phalaenopsis, tulip, sweet pea, etc. EFFECT:The agent is capable of exhibiting effect in a very low concentration, economically advantageous and particularly effective for treatment in a large amount simply by dissolving in water without burning or crushing the cut ends of the cut flowers.
