For making thin-walled intermediate products in the form of wire or foil of steel containing chromium (heating-conductor material), e.g. for catalyst carriers, heat exchangers or soot filters, an aluminium-free steel is deformed down to the finally intended thickness, after which the surface of the intermediate product is friction-coated with a layer of aluminium, or with a material containing aluminium, and finally diffusion-annealed. Several layers of this product can be laminated together by solder coatings.
