The process consists of subjecting the starting oil to (a) purificn. by treatment with activated earth and filtration; (b) hydrogenation with a Ni or kieselguhr catalyst at 180 deg.C until an iodine value below 100 is reached, and then at 220-230 deg.C to give an iodine value below 2; (c) hydrolysis with water at 255 deg.C under 50 bar pressure; (d) distn. in a column rectifier of 40 theoretical plates under 1-2 mm.Hg vacuum; and (e) cooling to ambient temp.
