A method for producing a junction which branches off from a line is carried out using a pipe stub which is provided at least on its end which is to be fitted into the line, on its outer surface, with a coating which adheres thereto. This coating forms a smooth surface which is passed without difficulties through a seal which is inserted into a suitable opening in the line. The smooth surface of the coating is matched to the smooth surface of the seal, so that the two smooth surfaces can be wrung on to one another.
